Charlie is a prize-winning soprano born in Lincoln, England. She is a former Scottish Opera Emerging Artist 2019/20, an alumna of the National Opera Studio 2018/19, and graduate of the Alexander Gibson Opera Studio at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (AGOS) and King’s College London (BAHons, English Literature). She is also a Samling Young Artist. Charlie is grateful to have been the recipient of several prestigious awards including: the Help Musicians UK Tutton Award, an Independent Opera Voice Scholarship, the Musicians’ Company Silver Medal, and the Bruce Millar Gulliver Prize.
Charlie’s operatic repertoire includes; Helena, Britten - A Midsummer Nights Dream, Fiordiligi, Mozart - Così fan tutte, Gianetta, Gilbert & Sullivan The Gondoliers, Dhia, Mascagni - Iris (Scottish Opera), La Contessa - Mozart - Le nozze di Figaro (Opera Bohemia), Anna, Donizetti - Anna Bolena (Longborough Festival Opera - cover), Donna Anna, Mozart - Don Giovanni (British Youth Opera), Rosalinde, J.Strauss - Die Fledermaus, Fiordiligi, Mozart - Cosi Fan Tutte, La Contessa, Mozart - Le nozze di Figaro, and Mrs Julian, Britten - Owen Wingrave ( The Athanaeum Theatre, AGOS). She also has a keen interest in contemporary opera and debuted the role of Belle in Scottish Opera’s short film The Narcissistic Fish, premiered the role of Serena Farage in the new opera The Secretary Turned CEO (Lucid Arts), and performed in the world premiere of Simoon by Erik Chisholm (Music Co-OPERAtive Scotland).
Her wide concert repertoire includes: Tippet A Child of Our Time (Glasgow Cathedral), Vaughan-Williams Sea Symphony at the Beijing Concert Hall, Brahms Requiem at the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Hall (Peking Sinfonietta - Nicolas Smith), Beethoven Missa Solemnis at Glasgow City Halls (Orchestra of Scottish Opera - Bartosz Zurakowski), Beethoven Choral Fantasia at Glasgow City Halls (BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra - Thomas Dausgaard), Haydn Creation at St John Smith's Square (Nick Kraemer), Haydn Nelson Mass, Orff Carmina Burana, Mozart Exultate Jubilate, and Rossini Petite Messe Solenelle. Recitals include Strauss Brentano Lieder (Independent Opera recital at the Wigmore Hall) with pianist James Bailieu, Faure La Bonne Chanson with French pianist Anne Le Bozec, and Strauss Four Last Songs with the St. James Orchestra (Ryan Bancroft).
